Welcome to
Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church Rivonia
Solemnity of All Saints, Year A

There are a rich variety of Liturgical and catechetical opportunities to choose from at Our Lady of Lourdes. See the list below to begin with! If you would would like to join a Small Christain Community or one of the parish groups, your presence will be greatly welcome.
Ministry can be described as a public service undertaken on behalf of the Christian community, in the name of Jesus Christ, for the sake of the Kingdom of God. Ministry like mission belongs first and foremost to the church as community, and not to any individual or group. While baptism is the basis for ministry, particular ministries will flow from the charisms/gifts of each individual. The need for these gifts is discerned by the community who recognizes and calls them forth, both for the service of the community and the personal growth of the individual.
Ministers are expected to undergo the necessary formation and training appropriate to their specific ministries. Partnership in ministry presupposes that people can collaborate as equals, irrespective of differences. All ministries are renewable on an annual basis except those that have been canonically commissioned.
Among the Ministries on offer are:

The awesome and popular Youth Band has been playing at Sunday evening mass for many, many a year. Ed and Dineke Fivaz were the first to form a little guitar group for the then Saturday evening mass, to bring a different and vibrant take on our Parish's Music Ministry.
The group grew from year to year and eventually took on a Praise and Worship-like quality.
The band then moved to the “Youth Mass” on Sunday evenings, hoping to engage with younger members of our Parish a bit more and to ultimately get them more involved in the mass and hopefully their faith.
The reins of the band were then handed over to Gareth Philips, who added his own passion for music and the Catholic faith to our repertoire. Gareth wrote many songs for the band which we still sing today.
Currently the band is led by Jenefer and Fiona Morgan, Antoinette De Klerk and Benita Billings. We are not only made up of gifted guitarists, but a spirited drummer and an amazing marimba and steel drummer player!
Occasionally, we are graced with 'travelling' base guitarists and jembe drummers. We are always looking to expand and welcome anyone who can play a musical instrument.
We practice once a month and are always looking to expand our repertoire.
We are very proud and privileged to lead the Praise and Worship at Sunday evening masses and be a part of the Music Ministry at Rivonia Parish.

The Parish Feeding Scheme collects money every 2nd weekend of the month and parcels are packed every 2nd Wednesday. 250 parcels are packed and distributed to the needy every month. Please give generously!
Contact Jacki du Pont via the Parish office if you would like to volunteer to man the collection tables or help to pack the parcels.
The Feeding Scheme:
When the Feeding Scheme was started many years ago in the Parish, each family was asked to contribute R20 a month, being the equivalent of a meal in those days! Since then prices have escalated and the number of families in the Parish have increased but we find ourselves in “dire straights”. The 250 parcels which we pack on the second Wednesday of each month, to be distributed in the Alexandra Parish of Fr Cairns costs approximately R17,000. We collect about R10,000 at the tables and a few parishioners give us stop orders but we are not breaking even. Presuming we have 1000 families at R20 a month should give us R20,000. That is a better bet than cutting down on the 250 parcels which are really needed. How do you feel? For more information contact Jacki du Pont through the Parish Office.
